I woke up on a plane.  Which seemed strange seeing as the sisters could zap me anywhere at any time, but there I sat.  I looked down at my ticket, I was flying to Bridgeport.  The sisters were sending me home.  I wondered if I had completed everything or if they had just changed their mind.

Then I saw the date on the ticket.  I had been gone for five years.  It had seemed like only a few months, maybe, but there the date stared me in the face.  Five years.  Jasper would be an adult, I missed him growing up.  All of it and I still had not avenged his death.

Once the plane landed I jumped into a taxi and headed to our old apartment.  My key still worked and once inside I realized that nothing had changed.

“I thought you were dead.” Morrigan said worried.  She had snuck up behind me without me knowing.  I could not even feel her in the room.  I turned quickly.

“I am sorry I have been gone so long Morrigan.  There were these sisters and a different dimension and they drugged me!” I explained as calmly as I could.

Morrigan just stared at me.  I could tell she was happy to see me alive but there was something between us now, a barrier.

“Where’s Jasper?” I asked excited to see my son.

“He and Belisama went out to the movies.” She looked down at the floor.

“Okay, then I will wait here till they return.” I smiled.

“Fine, but after you greet them you need to leave.” Morrigan grumbled.

“What?  This is my home too.” I whined slightly.  Since Morrigan created me she always had the ability to wield a certain level of authority over me. She never used in it the past but I could feel her trying now but it had no real effect on me.

“It was, but it isn’t anymore.  Your safer outside of Bridgeport.  Things have changed here, and you have chosen to leave the coven.  I can’t protect you.” She was hurt, there was no doubt about it.

“Please you must understand, I didn’t choose to leave.  I was tricked into it.  The sisters tricked me into becoming one of them.  I had no idea.”  I begged.

“Maybe when it was first broken you didn’t know.  But you sealed it.  The entire coven felt you sever your connection to us.  You are powerful, you were a welcomed addition.  Now you’re a threat.  I am sorry but I can’t have you living here.” Morrigan sighed.

Just then the door opened and Jasper floated in.  He had grown in to such a handsome ghost-man.

“Jasper!” I exclaimed when I saw his aura.

“Mom?” He looked at me a moment then floated toward me pulling me into a hug.

“We thought you were dead.” He seemed like he was about to cry.

“I might as well of been.  I have missed you so much!”

“I have some great news for you.” Jasper smiled brightly.

“What is it?” I could not help but get caught up in his excitement.  Even Morrigan cracked a slight smile.

“Belisama and I are getting married!” He cheered.

“I am so happy for you!” I cheered with him, “where is she?  I want to see what a beautiful woman she has grown into.”

As if on cue Belisama walked in the door.

“Lux?” She stared at me in disbelief.

“Hello future daughter-in-law.” I smiled at her.

“So you’re okay with it?” she asked concerned after giving me a hug.

“Of course!  You two were meant to be.” I laid my hand on her shoulder.

“I was worried, since you left the coven you wouldn’t approve.” She looked at her feet.

“Coven rules don’t control me, I welcome you into my family.”

Morrigan laughed sarcastically from the kitchen.  Her entire long life had been ruled by the coven.  Her bond with the queen was strong, at the time though I didn’t know it she had become the queen’s right hand.  If it wasn’t for our past and our children’s love the queen would have had me killed on sight but Morrigan had talked her out of it.  Claiming I wasn’t a threat.  Which for Morrigan I wasn’t.

That evening I found a new home.  This was made very easy since the sisters had filled my bank account with some of their family fortune.

*****

I spent the next year bonding with my son and getting to know him and his fiancé again.  I knew I had other things to do but I hadn’t realized how much I missed them until I came home.  In my spare time I researched my target.  She had made things too easy for me.

Jasper and Belisama were married in the spring.  The wedding was beautiful under a full moon in the park.  They kept the guest list small and Belisama got the Queen’s permission to allow me to attend.  I didn’t think it was necessary but Belisama wanted to avoid fighting at the wedding.  That was the first time since my arrival home that I saw Morrigan, we only talked for a few minutes about how happy we were for our kids but I knew we would never be close again.

I used some of my new found fortune to pay for the kid’s honeymoon.  They were going to spend a month in Moonlight Falls.  A place I had heard that was full of the supernatural, a place where both could be themselves.

It was the night of their wedding that I got a package.  When I came home it was sitting in the foyer on a normally empty table.  I opened the brown paper carefully looking for a return address.  In the box was a small vile and a note.

It’s the last vile of this I will ever let her make.

Love, Your Protector

I knew the vile was from Natasha.  She had risked her sister, or our sister’s, mental well-being by letting her use her magic.  It meant the world to me.

With my son gone for a month with his blushing bride I knew what I needed to do.

“Hello Bella, remember me? Come dear away from the edge.” I smiled then turned to walk away.  She didn’t see me appear but I watched her spine shiver when she heard my voice.

This was going to be fun.
