I am not sure how this thought didn’t pop into my mind, but it is very sunny in Egypt. As a vampire I found this troublesome, but I was on a mission.

I found a guide wandering through the camp site but in my attempt to ask him simple directions he flipped his hat.
“I don’t want any trouble from your kind.” He said backing away waving his hands in front of him.  I wondered what vampire interactions he had before to be so afraid but I did not have time to search for such useless information.
Just when I was going to dive into a tent for some relief from
the sun, the strangest thing happened. Now in my long life a lot of strange things have happened, I mean I became a vampire for goodness sake, but this event still baffles me.

I heard a squawk that sounded like someone calling my name.  When I turned I saw a fluffy iceberg white Cockatoo staring at me.  I felt compelled to reach out and grab it, it didn’t argue.
Instead it just hopped on to my arm.

The bird stood perched on my arm for a moment.
I knew it was there for me, to show me something.  With a knowing nod the bird took flight and I followed.  I questioned myself the entire trip.  I, a vampire, was running through Egypt
in broad daylight following a bird.  It still sounds crazy. But I am glad I did, because that beautiful Cockatoo led me to the sisters.

The bird landed on the roof of a small home.  The moment it landed a woman stepped out of the door to greet me.
“We should get you out of the sun, please come in.” She looked at me with a perfect poker face. I could not tell if I was a good or bad thing to her and to top it off her mind was blocked from me.
“Who are you? What are you?” I asked a bit defensively.  I did not want to be lured to some vampire killing den.
“I will explain inside. Don’t worry, I will not harm you as long as you remain a non-threat.”And then she walked inside.
I was somehow calmed by her assurance that she would not harm me.  I wasn’t sure why, but she seemed like an honest person.  Almost too honest like she had never had a reason to lie.
I followed her inside. She told me to make myself at home and then slipped out the back door. I looked around the room for weapons.  She wouldn’t harm me, but that didn’t mean someone didn’t lay in wait.

In one of my scans I was surprised by a woman.  I did not even notice her
approach or sense her presence.  There was something strange about these sisters, something Stella’s mind was able to hide from me or maybe she honestly did not know.
“A vampire.” The woman whispered seductively. “Are you a present for me?”
“Um, no.” Was all I could manage.  I was completely caught off guard.
“Maybe I could be a present for you?  You seem hungry, when was the last time you fed?” She purred as she stepped closer.
“A few days ago.” I answered quickly and with a nervous giggle added, “it was a long flight.

“Well if you need a quick bite or maybe some fun, I am right in  there.” She pointed to a bedroom door suggestively.
“Oh, ya know, I think I am okay.  I am more of a blood bank gal anyway.” I felt my tongue stumble over my words as I stepped back from her.
She smelled so good.  Like sweet lilacs, I could only imagine what she tasted like.  My fangs throbbed as I resisted her offer.
As I took a deep breath to try to calm myself her scent filled me, and triggered curiosity.  Humans are buttery, not sweet and definitely not floral.  What was she?

Picture
She must have noticed my tongue run over my fang, my resolve weakening.  Within the blink of an eye she pulled me in close.
“Trust me,” she smiled, “it’s like nothing you have tasted before.”  She watched my inner battle through my eyes.
“I am willing, and you’re in need.  I am offering it freely.
It’s easy.” She leaned in slowly and kissed my neck, exposing her own in the process.
I bit my lower lip and shut my eyes, trying not to breath in her intoxicating scent.  I wanted her blood, yes, but I wanted more than that. She had awoken a craving for touch, for intimacy, for passion.  My worries began to slip away, I only
wanted one thing.  I wanted her, completely.  My lips parted as I leaned in towards her neck, every part of me buzzing with excitement.  Then I heard her sister.
“Ah-hem.” She fake coughed loud enough to break my trance.
The one who smelled like lilac stepped back with a frown, I shook my head attempting to clear it.
“You always ruin all my fun.” She said before storming off into her room, but just before slamming the door she stopped and winked at me.
“Sorry about that.” The other sister smiled.
“What is going on here. Who are you two?” I demanded.  I was sick of feeling lost.
“You know who we are.” She said warming up a bit, “You met our sister Stella.”
“Okay, what are you two?” I sounded more frustrated than I was, but I was getting a headache from the loss of her sister’s scent.
“We are mortal, that I assure you, and we use to be human.”She sat down signaling for me to do the same. I looked around, I really had nowhere to go with the sun still high and she had the answers I needed about Jasper. So I sat.
“When we left Bridgeport, we asked our sister to join us but she was in love with the city.  So we left without her, it was hard on
all of us. We are triplets, and have always had a connection.  But when we left and Stella chose to stay, she broke the bond.
Leaving it between just us two.” Her eyes seemed sad as she spoke but the rest of her face gave away nothing.
“I am sorry.” It was all I could think to say.
“Not you’re doing, her choice.  Our powers increased the closer we got to our home land, and so did our bond.  However the power comes with a price.  Divided three ways, that’s how it was supposed to be, that was the plan.  It’s too much for just two, its driving my sister to insanity.” Her eyes looked to the door her sister had gone through before returning to me.
“We were born Princesses and Priestesses, we control the magic of our Goddess both evil and good. For this we are granted powers to do many things and our blood has been marked by the Goddess.  Thankfully for you, the ability to teach is one of our gifts.” She smirked slightly.
“I did not come here to learn anything but who killed my son.” I growled, my headache worsening.
“That will come.  Now let’s cure that headache.” She got up and walked to a large cabinet.  She seemed to know everything about me, yet I knew so little about her.  She stood for a moment doing something inside the cabinet that I could not see.
I heard a light moan and then smelled the blood.  Fresh, pumping, buttery blood.  She quickly closed the cabinet and walked over to me with a cup.
I examined it waiting for something bad to happen.  She placed the simple red plastic cup in my hands.  I looked down at the liquid and back up at her, my jaw slack with confusion.
“Don’t worry, there are no memories to gain.” She nudged my hands towards my mouth causing the liquid to slush.
My fangs started to pound in rhythm with my head, I looked up at the Princess.  She nodded and with that I drank.  One  questioning sip turned into a gulping mess.  As I drained the cup my headache disappeared.  I reached out to put the cup on the coffee table, but for some reason my hand just didn’t make it and the cup dropped to the ground.
The euphoric feeling of fresh blood quickly disappeared and I was left with only a spinning sensation. My eyes scanned the room, trying to comprehend what had happened.  The Princess stepped into my line of sight and gently guided me to lay on the couch. I had no power to fight it, she attempted to sooth me as she laid me down.  Once my head hit pillow the world went
black.
