I had just finished feeding Albert when the thought hit me.  Tonight was the night.  The one I had worked so hard for.
Tonight Jasper would be returned to me.  I quickly dressed and grabbed his remains.  Checking the clock I realized it was only nine.  I had a few hours to kill before my appointment.  While pacing the craving hit.
Why not go get a snack?  I walked to the fridge for some plasma juice but once I opened it I changed my mind.  I had time for a quick hunt.  I ran over to the diner. The perfect hunting ground for a beginner like me.

I was talking to Lola Bell when I spotted him.  The perfect target.  Without a breaking my conversation I reached out to his mind, making him notice me, making him adore me.  I was getting good at this fast.

Lola went inside and the boy took his shot.

He introduce himself quickly stumbling over his words.

He told me how pretty I was and that he would love to by me some  pancakes.  I laughed and informed
him of my dietary needs.  He at first seemed shocked but then a thought seemed to occur to him.
He lifted out his arm.
“Here, have some of mine.” He smiled shyly.  This all seemed too easy.
“Are you sure, you just met me.” I reached out
and ran my finger over the veins in his arm.  I could feel the blood coursing through them, one beat at a time.

“Yep,” he gulped, “Its cheaper than having to buy you food.”He laughed trying to lighten the mood.  I smiled at his attempt at
humor.
“If you insist.” I said before bending over his arm.
I first kissed the spot sweetly allowing his muscles to relax, and then dug my fangs into his skin.

I heard him squeal like a stuck pig, shocked by the bite but he
did not pull away.

I tried to drink quickly and fought my own urges to finish him
off.  I could see the color draining from his skin.

As I stood up I licked my lips, making sure I got every drop.

He stared at me with big doe eyes.
I wondered what he was thinking, to tingly from the feeding to reach out with my mind, but I didn’t have to.

After only a moment he made this thoughts very clear.

Picture
He pulled me in for a kiss, at first he seemed to question it but when I didn’t pull away he went for it.
I wondered as I kissed him back if this was cheating.
Will and I were not really official in human terms, and this was a way he suggested I feed. I wondered if he
slept with all his food.  Then I realized I was thinking about Will while kissing another man, but then how many times had I thought about Morty while kissing Will? A lot.
I hoped this wasn’t becoming a pattern.
My mind was pulled away from others when I noticed the direction this young lads hands were traveling.

Picture
I stepped back and smiled.
“I am so glad I met you tonight.” He almost giggled.  What was I going to do with him?
“Here is my number, call me some time.” I said writing my number on his arm.  He just nodded and smiled as I turned to go.  I had a strong feeling he would be calling me even though we never exchanged names.

I looked down at my now blood spattered dress.  I decided to stop at home and change before heading to the next piece of agenda for the night, Jasper’s
resurrection.

Picture
I paused for only a moment when I got to the research facility.  It only took a moment for me to decided I was doing the right thing.
Inside I met a man in a lab coat.  He asked me for the remains and led me to a lab room.  I watched him dump Jasper’s ashes in to a tray and pour some sort of goo
on them. Then handing me goggles he told me to stand back.  Not wanting to mess anything up I did as he told me too.  I stood and watched as lights of every color seemed to shoot down on to the remains.  The lab tech flipped a switch and the room filled with an electric buzz until a spark flashed on the goo.  The goo began to bubble and grow.
First it became white and seemed to form bones then red slimy muscles and veins seemed to form.  My fangs pulsed at the idea of the blood that would be soon coursing through there, I cursed my new cravings.  This was my son not food.  I watched as the goo finished the body off with pale baby fresh skin.
I sucked in a quick breath, it looked just like him.  My Jasper, before. But in that breath I smelled something rank.  I could smell it before its effects showed through.  The body started to twitch and come to life Jasper’s spirit appeared and hovered the body before being pulled into it.  It seemed like forever as the body twitched, eyes fluttering, fingers tapping, stomach rising and falling quickly.  The lab tech chewed his nails before flipping a final switch.
A second zap shot through the air and the body stilled for just a moment before it sat up.  Jasper opened his eyes and looked at me, but instead of smiling he screamed and fell back on to the table shaking.
The lab tech told me to wait, and going against every urge in my body I did.  I watch the fresh skin ooze from the new tissue under it, the rank smell from before the rotting flesh of the dead filled the room as Jasper’s body broke down into the goo it started as.
I ran from the room, unable to watch any more.

Picture

Once outside I began to gag.
My body having already broken down my breakfast all there was to do was violently cough in attempt to lose the thoughts and smell of that lab.
It had been ten minutes when coughs turned into muffled cries for the son I had failed.  The son I had lost for good again.
I heard the lab tech step out side and turned to him.
"We were unable to completely reform him.  However we were successful in stabilizing his spirit, for now.”
“What do you mean for now? What did you do to my son?” I felt the urge to rip out his throat, but my craving for answers won.

Picture
“Well, see,” He rubbed his neck nervously as sweat started to appear on his brow.

That’s when he floated by.

Jasper was still here, still with me.

I ran to him.

Picture
Pulling him into a hug I demanded he tell me what was going on.  I had seen him die, again.  His remains, all that
attached him to this plane of existence was destroyed.
It was impossible that he was here, in my arms.
Yet, he was.
The lab tech coughed making us both look up at him.
“I don’t know what happened, but his spirit seems stable.  And now its unattached so he can go where ever he wants.  It also seems to have taken on a lot of qualities of a physical body, so he will need food still and sleep.  But I
don’t know how long he can stay like this.  Maybe forever, maybe a week.  I am sorry.” And before I could answer he stepped inside and locked the door.
I should have been upset that it failed, but I was so overwhelmed with the idea of having Jasper in my arms that I didn’t care.
I pulled Jasper tighter to me, till he started to cough and choke.
“Mom, I missed you too but you’re really strong now.” He coughed.
I laughed and let him go. Looking him over as he continued to talk.
“I have so much to tell you. Well bits and pieces of information, being dead does have its benefits when looking for a killer.” He shrugged. I was about to scold him for joking about his death, but didn’t when his last word hit me.
Killer.  Jasper was murdered and the killer still walked.
“Tell me everything you know.” I said sitting on the ground.
Jasper looked around, “Here?” he asked.  I just nodded.
“Fine, but I am going to need a flash light.”
I sighed and handed him the flash light from my keys.  As a human I used it more than once, but as a vampire I had never needed it.

“I was poisoned, this much I know for sure…”

Picture

“…the Grimm gave me a few clues to go by….”

Picture

“He showed me, on the other side, the poisoned that was used to kill me.  Only on the quarter moon can
this poison be made, by one with evil intent in their heart.  They must milk the fangs of the desert python and mix it with the spit from a mummy.”

Picture

“It will only work if combined in the presence of a voodoo
princess, with her blessing in a cursed tomb.”
Jasper shook himself out of the trance he had fallen into.  He looked at me.

 “You get all that?”

Picture

Wide-eyed and still in shock I nodded.

“Good because I can’t do that again.  I get one message from there, and I made it the information I gathered.  Other than that I can’t remember anything about the other side.
Only my time here.” He shrugged.

Picture

I got up and hugged him again.

“Don’t worry about it. Your home now and I am going to take care of it.”

On the way home Jasper and I stopped at a greasy diner.  Apparently being brought back from the dead made you hungry, he ate for both of us.

Picture

When I got him home I tucked him in for his first real night
sleep.  I made my bed on the couch and fell asleep happy knowing Jasper would be there when I woke up.
