When I woke up, the sun was just setting and I was hungry.  After sipping on some Plasma juice Morrigan left outside my door I decided I needed to complete my first feeding.  This Plasma nonsense wasn’t really cutting it for me anymore. So I called the vampire I knew could help me, William Fangmann.

He agreed to meet me at the cemetery.  At first I thought that was a bit cliché but I was not going to complain.  He had agreed to teach me how to hunt.  For the first time ever, I was able to watch him approach me at superhuman speed.
“No more sneaking up on me.” I smiled playfully.  After all the last time I saw him we were rolling out of bed.
“Look at you,” He growled running his eyes over my body,“good
enough to eat.”
I giggled and probably would have blushed if I still could.

“Let’s have a taste shall we?” He grabbed my waist and pulled me into a deep kiss.  I didn’t fight it, I knew I could now but his embrace was warm and welcomed on my part.  I allowed myself to fall into the kiss completely which is why I was a bit shocked when I felt his fang nip at my lip.  It hurt only for a moment
and before I was able to think things through I returned the biting favor and broke the skin on his lower lip.
My tongue had barely examined the wound before the first drop of blood exploded on my taste buds.  It was sweet, like a warm honey and sent a shock down my spine.  Was this what it was like to feed?  We pressed in closer to each other.  As our lips healed I longed for more it was more than lust it was a true hunger.

William was the one who had to pull away.  I was unhappy that he did but glad my sense of control was returning.  He
grinned at me teasingly.
“Well, well,” he laughed, “looks like the lion came dressed as the lamb.”
I could not help it, it busted out laughing.
“You know, you might be the corniest vampire I ever meet.” I said between bursts of laughter.
“What can I say, I have a lot of down time to fill.” He smiled.  I thought for a moment, all that spare time I would have.  After I solved Jasper’s murder what was I going to do with all that time.  I started to understand Morrigan’s want to be human again.  To feel time.  I just wasn’t ready for it yet.
“Let’s go hunting shall we?” Will asked, breaking my train of thought.
I nodded simply and followed him out of the cemetery.

“So this is the winning hunting grounds?  The Boxcar diner?” I whispered to Will.
“Well, yes.  They flood this place late at night, many drunk from the bar up the street.  And once they have eaten you don’t need to worry so much about fainting spells and such. Besides, look at all the dark corners you can feed in.”
I scanned the area, he was right.  Now I just needed to get past the smell of sweat and grease.

Will sent me inside to scope out the ‘snacks’ as he called them.  I cringed a little at the thought of those who were once my peers being nothing but food.  Something I got over as the years have gone on.

After searching the place out I found a few targets and met Will out back to tell him my findings.
He laughed that all my easy targets seemed to female.
I could not help it though, they were all overly friendly and trusting of another female. He sent me off to my first target with one piece of advice, “ask first or they will
scream.”

Going around the corner I ran into a woman who had just finished losing her burger and nectar. She stood up and looked at me.
“Hey do I know you?” She slurred, “I am pretty sure I know you.”
But before I could answer she fell into my arms and started to snore.  Her head leaned to one side leaving her neck wide open.  I glanced around me looking for anyone who might see, with the coast clear I bent over her.  Just as my teeth were grazing her skin Will tapped my shoulder.
“And what do we have here?” He asked with a smile.

“She is sleeping, she will never know.” I said slightly annoyed at the interruption.
My thirst had grown to unbearable now that her veins were so close.
“Ah yes, but she is unwilling which means what?” He asked like a bad school teacher.
“A unchecked memory flood.” I sighed as I put her down on the sidewalk and shook her a bit.  She woke with a start.
“Did I fall asleep?” She asked a bit shocked.
“Yes, I and I am a vampire. Do you mind if I suck your blood?” I asked her point blank.
She stared at me for a moment digesting what I had said and then laughed.
“Wow you must be drunker than me!” And with that she got up and stumbled away.  Will just laughed at me as I stood up.
"Well that’s one way, I guess.” He laughed.
I stomped my way behind the diner where I ran into another lost lady.

“I seem to have lost my phone and need to call a taxi, do you mind if I borrow yours?” She asked kindly. I just smiled and handed her my cell.
I felt a tickle in my mind and then a clear message from Will.  Send her a positive image of you.  Just let
your mind reach out.
It seemed strange but after a few deep breaths I felt my mind touch hers.

At first I thought I was losing it, but when she handed me back my phone she stared at me with longing. I reached out and brushed a piece of hair behind her ear.  She leaned into my hand.  Clearly I had done something.
My mind tickled again, it wears off act fast.
I led her around the corner, she followed without any issue.

She leaned in and kissed me. In shock I pulled back.
“I am sorry,” she mumbled, “I just, I don’t know, I have never felt this way before.”
I smiled my sweetest smile.
“It’s okay, me either.” I reached out and gently grabbed her hands.
“What do you want?” It was like she was reading my
mind.
“Just a taste.” I smiled at her. I lifted her wrist and playfully
ran my thumb over it.
She nodded her approval and my teeth sunk in to her flesh.

At first I let the blood pump out on its own, the warm syrup coated my tongue.  Unlike Will’s, she tasted almost buttery and salty.  Like a hearty Thanksgiving meal.  I instantly wanted more.  Working with her heart I started to suck on the wound filling my mouth and gulping down her life.  Her mind flooded mine, starting with her evening and going backwards to her
childhood. She only moaned slightly and dropped into my arms as she weakened.  I heard William creep up behind me and latched on to my prey even more.  But where I had youth he had experience. Before I was able to consider his actions he had launch on to my back and placed his fangs at my throat.  I reacted by dropping the girl and whipping around wildly trying to grab at him and pull him off my neck.  Out of the corner of my eye I saw the girl’s limp body on the curb I realized what Will had stopped me from doing.  I stopped flaying and listened hopefully, Will jumped down as I did and laughed slightly.
Under his laugh I heard her heart beat, it was faint but there.  She was still alive.  I sighed with relief.
“Control, Grasshopper.” Will whispered as he pulled me in close.  I frowned, so disappointed in myself for almost taking her life.  Will lifted my chin so I met his eyes.
“Your young and hungry.” He smiled, “You will learn.”
He leaned in gently licking my chin and then kissing the trail as he went.  I could not help but think of what a mess I must have
been.
“Let’s get you home and cleaned up, shall we?” Will whispered playfully in my ear.
With all new blood rushing though my system I was able to think of things other than food and welcomed his invite.
When I woke up the next evening Will was already gone.  I knew he would be and was glad.  I wanted some time to think by
myself.  I laid in bed for a while thinking about what I had almost done and now that I had some time to filter through her memories I knew who I almost did it too.  While she did not have the happiest of lives she seemed content, at least
in her memories.  She was a good person and there was no way I would have been able to justify her death.  I sent a simple thank you to Will.  I felt my mind tickle as he responded with a playful No Thank you. This mental connection thing could be useful.  I would have laid in bed all night thinking of my victim even though my stomach growled again, but Albert wouldn’t
hear of it.  He was hungry too.
