After what seemed like weeks locked in that little basement room studying that book, I heard a creak at the top of the stairs.
“It’s not healthy to go this long without feeding, no matter the dimension.” It was Nalia at the top of the steps.
I could not help but smile at the sound of her voice.  I walked over to the stairwell and looked up, I heard her giggle and then disappear.  I decided to try the steps.
They seemed shorter this time, only a flight or so.  I wondered why it seemed to take me so long to get downstairs if it was only a few steps to get up, but I stopped worrying about it when I reached the top.  I was in the back of a coat closet.
I saw light under the door and opened it, stepping out I was greeted by Nalia in a kitchen.

“There wouldn’t happen to be safe plasma juice in the fridge there?” I asked nervously, rubbing my neck as talked.

Nalia looked at me concerned then she
laughed.

Picture

“In there?” She giggled, “You will only find steaks and such.  No plasma juice.”  She quietly clicked her tongue at the end, as though it was a shame.
I frowned in response, I hadn’t noticed in the basement room but I was getting very hungry.  I had not fed since her sister had drugged me.

Picture
“But you know…” She paused a moment stepping closer to me, “there are fresh and willing sources.” She bent her head slightly exposing her neck.

I looked around the room, it was a bit exposed.
Nalia seemed to read my mind and pulled me across the living space to a
dark room with only a four post bed in it.  She smiled devilishly and stepped in
towards me, closing the space between us.

Picture
She pressed herself against me burying my face in her hair.  I tried to resist, I knew her sister would not be happy but Nalia’s scent pulled me in.  I bent my neck slightly and bit into her tender skin.
The skin seemed to welcome my fangs splitting without any resistance.
Her blood flowed easily, dancing over my tongue.  She tasted like sugar and lilacs, almost too sweet but something kept me hooked.  Her blood was almost  electric, as it tingled down my throat I felt the lust that came with a feeding.  My head buzzed with excitement as I felt Nalia’s hands run up and down my back.  She must have noticed my body shift, allowing for the two of us to be closer together.

Picture
Everything started to blur as she gently lifted my lips from her neck and pressed them against her own. I didn’t resist instead I let myself be led by her over to the bed.   She pressed me down on to the bed, but before joining me pulled away.
I looked up at her confused, worried I had done something wrong.  She smiled back at me as she ran her hand over her neck where I had bitten, she wiped the blood away from the skin.  It had healed completely.  I stared at her neck for a moment in shock, I had never seen a bite heal that quickly.
Almost like it never happened.

Picture

Nalia crawled on to the bed hovering over me. I watched her bit down on the inside of her lower lip. When she smiled her teeth were tinted red. Before I could do anything she kissed me again.
Things progressed from there quickly.  The taste of her blood mixed with her passion was almost more than I could handle, but I couldn’t bear to separate myself from her.

When we were both too exhausted to move, we laid next to each other.  I stared at this interesting creature.  She smirked at me slightly, for a moment I saw myself falling in love with her.  Feelings deeper than those I had for Morty but it was only for a fleeting moment. When it was over I eyed her curiously.
“That can’t happen, you know that.” She smiled.
We both rolled apart the same time, grabbing for something we had thrown on the floor to put on. Once slightly decent we relaxed next to each other.

Picture
“So what was all that about?” I looked at her wondering how all that emotion could sneak up on me and drain so quickly.
“Everyone I touch falls in love with me.” She looked down at her hands then back at me, “But your different, your part of us, well soon you will be.”  She looked past me, her eyes seemed to be lost in a different world.
I watched her for a few minutes, waiting for her to pop out of her trance but she seemed stuck it in. Just as I reached to shake her out of it the door to the bedroom opened and her sister filled the door way.

“Oh come now.” She looked between the two of us.
At the sound of her sister’s voice Nalia snapped back.  She smiled at me politely, got up and walked out of the room. Her sister shooting dirty looks at her all the way.  As soon as Nalia had cleared the door her sister closed it, leaving me alone in the room.

Picture
I dressed quickly and stepped out of the room and into the sister’s argument.
“You should know better!” Her sister snapped.
“I was doing what needed to be done,” Nalia responded calmly, “and maybe having some fun while doing it.”
“You could have risked everything, what about your daughter?  What about Apple?  This is her home too.”
For the first time I noticed the little girl standing between the sisters.  She was wearing a helmet and goggles, which was a bit strange but considering she was Nalia’s daughter I did not put much thought into it.

Picture

“I am sorry.” I busted in trying to take my part of the blame.
Both sister’s turned their scowls on me.
“This is my fault too, I will leave as soon as you show me how.”  I pleaded, as much as I knew it was not my fault I was there I was a guilty party.

Picture
Nalia’s sister sighed. After a few deep breaths she looked at the floor.
“It’s not your fault Lux. Nalia is right, it needed to happen. I just don’t like the way she let it get out of control.”
I looked to Nalia, who was now smirking, and back at her sister.
“What do you mean it needed to happen?  What am I missing here?"
“You will find out soon enough, back to your studies now.”

Picture
“I want to know now.” I snapped, but it was at no one.
Before I was even able to respond, I had been transported back into the basement room.  Except now there was a door where the stairs where and a crystal ball against the wall.  I sighed, and walked over to the door.  I jiggled
the handle.  Just as I expected, it was locked.
Instead of going through the effort of lighting the room again, I left it dark.  I wondered over to the cot and laid on top of the blankets. The sisters clearly had a plan for me, what it was I had no clue, but I could not let them get between me and revenge for my son.

Picture
After lying in bed for what seemed days, I got up and gave in.  I decided to mess around with some of the other things in the room, since there was nothing more I could learn from the book.  I tried my hand at brewing potions.  As I stirred in mashed butterflies and frog eyes I had found on a shelf, could not help but wonder if this was how Jasper’s murder had started their poison training.  Evil thoughts raced through my head as the vision of me ripping out that woman’s throat came into my mind.
Not paying attention to my brew, I heard a crackle and a  poof.  Then nothing.
Maybe potions were not my thing.

Picture
I turned to the crystal ball instead, hoping to revisit my son’s face.
Instead as I stared into its reflective surface,
I saw my own face staring right back at me.  I was smiling, the vision zoomed out and I noticed my stomach puffed out.  The sister’s stood on either side of me smiling.  I was pregnant.

Shaking my head I broke the trance the crystal ball had on me.

Picture
I jumped out of my seat and in shock attempted to destroy the thing with one of my spells, but the ball had no reaction to my magic.  I stared at my hands in shock, I had never attempted one of the spells before.  For it to already be such a knee jerk reaction scared me. I thought about the vision.
A child, the sisters, where was Jasper?  Who was the father?  Why did I seem so happy?  Had the sisters successfully distracted me from my goals?  Thoughts whirled around in my mind.  I decided then and there that I needed to know what the sisters were up to and no locked wooden door, magical or not, was going to stop me.
I approached the door with complete focus, I was not taking no for an answer.  I reached out I violently twisted the knob, but it released easily and the door flew open.  The sisters stood in the same spot I left them, but now staring at me with wide eyes.
It was like no time had passed at all for them.  They stood in the same spot arguing about what Nalia and I had done, even
Nalia’s daughter remained where I had last seen her.
I slowly stepped out into the room, the door slamming itself behind me.  I looked around, the door was where the bedroom door once was. Confused but determined I approached the sisters.

Picture
“Look,” I said eyeing both of them but concentrating on Nalia’s sister, “I don’t know what you got going on here but I am done being trapped in this maze of a house.”
“I know, I am sorry.  Things are not going as smoothly as I hoped.” Nalia’s sister seemed
sincere, but she always did.
“See, right there, that’s what I am talking
about.  What is not going smoothly?  What is this crazy plan you have for me?  I came here for help with my son, not to help you.”
“Yes I understand, but it’s part of your path.” She pinched her nose squeezing her eyes shut.
“The path that doesn’t end in me getting caught for ripping out  the throat of the woman who killed my son?” I asked, filling in the blanks she was leaving.
“Exactly.”  She waved her hand and Nalia and her daughter exchanged a look and went through the door I had just come out, only when it opened it looked like a kids bedroom.
I stared after them as the door closed.
“Please sit, let me explain.” She sat at the table gesturing to the seat across from her.
“That would be a nice change.” I scoffed as I took the suggested seat.
“First off my name is Natasha,” she glared across the table,“so you can stop coming up with mean names for me while you try to sleep.”
I wondered how she might have known about that, I never said any of them out loud.
“Nice to meet you.” I put on a fake smile and nodded.  She waved off the mock gesture.
“As I explained before, my sister and I are supposed to be triplets.  Our powers are too great for only two. So as you might guess we need a third.”  She looked at me as though I understood perfectly.
“So call your sister.” I shrugged, the answer seemed simple.
“Cant, that bond is to far broken.” Natasha leaned forward on the table, a grin crept over her face, “We need to create a new  bond.”
I was not a fan of where this was going, so I played dumb.
“I am not sure how I can help you make Apple join you, she is just a kid.”
“Don’t do that, you know I mean you.  You have the power, and after your antics with Nalia you have broken your  bond with your vampire coven.”  She snipped.
“I what?” I said a bit louder than I expected.  I immediately searched my mind for Morrigan, any sign of her, but there was nothing. My mind, the spot that she and our coven held was empty.
I was overcome with the feeling of loss, like someone had ripped my family away from me to never be seen again.  I looked up at Natasha, I watched the snark wash from her face when she noticed the pain on mine.
“Don’t worry,” she cooed, “we will make it all better.” She reached out touched my hand.  I went to pull it back but her touch was warm and welcoming.
“There is only one thing left to do.” Natasha smiled at me, “You need to feed from me.”
I went to object but she moved to quickly.  I watched as she ran her fingernail across the skin on her wrist directly over the vein.  A move like this would kill a human but she seemed fine as the blood pooled and then poured over her skin.
I looked up at her confused, she only nodded her approval.  I tried to say no, but the smell hit me.  I couldn’t
resist my basic desires any more.   I pulled her arm towards me, pulling her further over the table. She didn’t resist at all, she just let me pull her like a rag doll.  She was sweet like her sister but instead of lilacs her sugar mingled with the
buttery flavor I had come to recognize in humans.  I made a mental note to figure out what the different flavors meant when
I wasn’t busy enjoying them.
She let me feed until I could feed no more, my body buzzed with electricity when I finally pulled away. I licked my lips trying to get every last drop.  I watched as she stitched the wound she had created.
“Won’t you heal like your sister?”  I asked a bit confused as to why she would go through the effort.
“No,” She looked up after tying a knot, “she is the priestess, she has those powers.  I am the protector, that makes me more  human.”
“So does that mean Apple is the Princess?” One of them had to be, Apple would be the next generation.
Natasha shook her head. I stared at her dumbfounded, this all made no sense.
“Normally she would be,” Natasha answered my unasked questions, “but since the power was divided by three she does not have that power.  She was born of the Priestess, she is human and powerless.”
“Soo…” I leaned back in the chair again, still confused.
“The third would be our Princess.” Natasha eyed me over the table, waiting, letting it sink into my thick skull.
Then it hit me.
“Wait,” I stood up throwing the chair back behind me in shock, “am I the Princess?”
Natasha only smiled and nodded.
For the second time since becoming a vampire, everything went black.

Poor Lux. I feel like she is just being used by these sisters. Like they only want to help themselves :(
