If I had a heart rate my blood would have been pumping.  I was so excited to start my new life that my fingers were tingling.
Picture
I quickly dialed Morrigan almost snapping my phone in the process.  It would take years before I mastered my own strength. She picked up on the second ring.
“Hi Lux.” She said cheerfully.
“Guess what!” I paused for a micro second before continuing,“it happened!  My change it complete!  I got fangs and everything.”  I was jumping up and down.
“Well congrats, I thought I felt a new presence.  Glad it was you.  But you’re not completely done.” She stopped to let me digest that for a moment.  The thing that should have given me pause did not, I was too wrapped up in the idea of not being  done.
“Come on over and I will teach you the basics.” Morrigan continued.
“Really? Like school?” I laughed, “Okay on my way teach.”
Before I could hang up Morrigan added one thing.
“Don’t take a cab. Lesson one, running.”  And then she hung up.  I looked down at my outfit.  She wanted me to run?  I would try but I was not changing my shoes.

Picture
Once I got out side I turned to run.
It only took a few steps before I started to fly.  Not literally, but running had never been so easy and I had never been so fast. I was not sure if it was that I no longer needed to breathe or just that my body did not tire from physical exertion any longer but running was easier than walking.  I blew past speeding taxis and some random people on the street. They didn’t even see me, only felt the
breeze of me running by.

Picture

In no time I was at Morrigan’s and laughing with glee.  I saw Morrigan smirk at my giggles as I accidently ran past her.
Learning to stop proved to be harder than learning to start.
When I finally slowed and circled back around Morrigan’s building she was waiting for me.

Picture

“That was amazing!” I gasped.
Morrgian just laughed at me.
“It was like I was walking on the moon or something, every step was so, so, springy!” I started to bounce back and forth a bit.
“I am glad you’re enjoying yourself.” Morrigan smiled.  “But there are a few things you need to know.”  She became more serious as she talked.

Picture
“I am a sponge, just waiting for the knowledge.” I joked but her
face wiped the smile from mine.
“I am glad,” she said taking the joke away completely.  “First, sun is bad.  You can be in it for a little while, but it will drain you quickly and you will burst into flame if you are in it too long.  How long is too long, depends on the vampire and their age so don’t test it. Second,” At this point I started to wonder if I should I brought a pen and paper. “to complete the metamorphous you must drink live, you have about a week but the sooner the better.  I will not take you hunting, but I am sure Will can help you.” At that a teasing smile appeared on her face but only for a moment.
“In the meanwhile you can get plasma from the food truck and I will give you a card to get bagged blood. It tastes horrible, but you won’t get any funny memories.”  I just nodded, for some reason the thought of blood was making my mouth
water.  Yep I was hungry.
“You will need to control your emotions,” she continued,“right now you are the monster children are told about.
If you let your emotions get the best of you, well, you can do some real damage." Belisama started to cry at this point in the conversation, distracting Morrigan.
“I got to put her down,” Morrigan sighed hugging her daughter to her chest, “sorry but that’s all you really need to know for now.  Any questions call me, unless the sun is up.” She smiled and winked.

Picture

“Thank you Morrigan.” I said as she pulled me into a hug.
“Just be safe.” She said, “it’s bad enough your my friend but now you are in my clan, so please watch yourself.”
“I will.” I squeezed her back.  The clan business still did not give me pause, but back then I didn’t know what it meant.
Before I left Morrigan handed me a card for a guy at the hospital to get the blood.  I should have seen that coming but somehow the idea of a hospital dealing blood through me off.

Picture
I decided to walk the streets at human speed.
It was very hard, always needing to slow myself down, I didn’t know how Morrigan or Will managed it.  I was thankful when I spotted the food truck.  A chance to stop this slow motion crap and eat.  I walked up to the window and peeked inside.  The owner had installed tinted glass and a speaker box so that people could not see him, but I did.  He sat on a stool with his hairy gut hanging out under his smeared white ribbed tank.  His three chins shook as he leaned toward the speaker to take my order.  I watched the sweat drip in between his three day old shave. Had I been human the idea of this greasy man making me food would have disgusted me. Which, in a way, explained the tinted windows.  But now all I could think of was wanting to free his blood from its daily battle to push through his veins.
“What can I get ya?” He yelled through the box, my nose was assaulted with the scent of onion and yet under that was the
whispering of buttery notes that I had come to expect from blood.  He must have bit his cheek earlier today.  I paused for only a moment, who was I that I thought these things?  That I was considering snacking on the man who sat in front of
me.
“I’ll take the O’s” I said, as Morrigan had instructed me to.
“Oh, you one of them?” He said, somehow managing to spit the word them
I just stood watching his skin wobble as he moved across the truck to a large pot and spooning a bowl full of chucky soup.
He brought it over to the pickup window and slid it through a drawer.
“Don’t you be gett’n any ideas little lady.” He knocked on the glass, “This here truck be vamp proofed.” I just nodded and put ten bucks where the bowl was, sliding the drawer back to him.  He took the money and returned to his stool.  I turned shaking my head at myself and found a table.

Picture
I coughed my first spoonful back up. That’s all I can really say about plasma Os.
While they might meet your nutritional needs, they do nothing for the cravings. Even after force feeding myself the entire bowl, I sat at the table daydreaming of the fat man’s well-padded throat.
Trying to shake it off, I spent the rest of night exploring the city.  I had lived here a few months at this time, but had never seen it the way I did now.  Dark alleys called to me as the perfect  feeding ground, while perfumes of the well-dressed mingled with the sewer’s stew of waste and lofted around me.   The human in me revolted against the thoughts I had about my city, but the vampire saw it as territory and fell in love.  By the time I had worked my way home I was completely at war with myself but as I felt the sun start to rise both parts of my mind combined to one agenda.
Get inside.
All of the tension drained from my body as I stepped into my apartment.  The sun could not hurt me through windows, but the light stung my eyes a bit. I made a mental note to install curtains when I got the chance.  For now I just needed to relax a bit
and get some sleep.

Picture
Before going to bed I decided to check my email.  I was waiting for one from my contact at the science lab.  As I deleted the Ad’s from my Inbox a chat window popped up, it was the lab
guy.
-Lux, do you still have the subject?
-Yes, are you ready?  I froze for a moment as he typed his response, at any moment he could turn me down and crush my hopes of my son returning to me.
-The machine is ready.  I just need you to know that we cannot guarantee success and that if we fail it may sever the subjects ability to return to this world at all.
Stupid informed consent, I had already discussed the risks with Jasper and we agreed it was worth it.  I just wanted to talk to him one last time before we went through with the procedure.
-I understand.  It almost hurt to type those words.
-Perfect. I have secured lab time in two days, it will have to be at midnight.  I hope that is workable for you.
-Perfect. See you then.

I smiled and logged off.
I sat at the desk for only a few more moments, hoping that I was doing the right thing.  Hoping it would work out and Jasper would truly return to me.  Only then could I concentrate on finding his killer.  Something I had been putting off from the moment Jasper's return became possible.  That was top priority.
I decided anymore thinking could go on tomorrow night I settled in for a day of sleeping. I fell asleep without an
issue, Morrigan was right the sun even being up drained me.  I would have slept like the dead all day, but around 2pm I woke up. At first it was groggy but I could feel a pressure in my head.

Picture

Little did I know downstairs Albert was giving a harsh greeting
to an intruder.  The pressure got stronger so I gave in and sat up.

Picture
I had the distinct feeling that someone else was in my home, in my personal space.  Just as I was about to consider myself loony the door clicked open.
“Repo!” She yelled as though that was kind enough.  I launched out of bed ready to jump her but held back a
moment.
“Sorry miss, You missed your last payment. I got to
collect.”  She said almost proudly as she handed me a folded piece of paper.  I knew what it would say and placed it on my bedside table.

Picture

“Oh, those are nice.” She said pointing her repo gun at my tables. “One should be enough with the lamp.” Then she flipped the switch.
It took everything inside me not to jump her, this invader.  I stalked around behind her and stood by my desk while she made quick work of my bedside table.

Picture
When she was done she turned and walked out like nothing had happened.
“Hope I don’t see you again.” She yelled cheerily as she clicked
my door shut.
I stood, almost holding myself still.
I could still smell her, I could easily follow her and show her what it was like to have something taken.   She was an easy target, sweating from the hot afternoon.  Her scent rich in the air, but I wouldn’t hunt.  At that time I thought I chose to stay home because I was still a person who didn’t like violence, but now looking back things may have turned out different if the sun had been down.
Had I been human there would be no repercussion.  I didn’t pay my bills, I was too wrapped up in Jasper and changing.
Well that needed to change or the city would run out of Repo-people.  I decided to try to sleep it off, which worked for a little while, but I woke up very hungry.
